about me

Anthony Theuninck

I have worked, volunteered and researched in the field of psychological care for over 20 years and am recognised as a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol) and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS).

In addition to my private work, I work in an NHS community mental health services with individual adults, groups, couples and families experiencing a broad range of psychological difficulties. As a clinical psychologist, I have specialist training and experience in treating people with mental health problems and have a sound understanding of the nature of human development.

I have experience of working in the voluntary sector in the United Kingdom and South Africa. I have worked for charities that support people struggling with anxiety, depression, discrimination, prejudice, and HIV, such as The Terrence Higgins Trust in London and the South African Depression and Anxiety Group.

My research has focused on the harmful effects of shame, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), difficulties with adapting to severe life stress and discrimination on the grounds of sexuality and HIV status. My recent collaborations have focused on emotional processes in psychological therapies.
